And one hero can have a limited number of creature 'stacks' and each stack can only be of one creature. They'll be in the city until you collect them with a hero (or you recruit a hero in the city which you can also do) since the creatures cannot travel by themselves (and heroes cannot travel without any creatures). Some buildings give you more gold, some give you magic spells but most of them allow you to recruit creatures.Įvery week you can recruit more creatures. If you see an icon of a sword, your move will end with a fight with an enemy that'll be there.Įvery day you receive resources from towns you own and mines located on the map that belong to you (you need to visit them once, they get flagged with your colour and they're yours until someone else visits them).Įvery day you can also build one building in each of your towns. An icon of a jumping horse means you're interacting with something (collecting resources or entering a place like a town). An icon of a running horse shows you where you'll end. Every day you can move your heroes (and creatures assigned to them) by a certain distance. It's divided into days, weeks and months. There are a lot of great things to discover - different creatures, factions, places - and it's fun to discover what those are as you play. Some of the towns are going to be familiar if you like fantasy in general - there's a forest town with elves & unicorns, there's a 'fiery' town with demons and devils - and some are pretty unique to Heroes 3 (swampy voodoo town!)īesides that, I would recommend going into it as blind as possible. The towns represent 9 different factions, and each type of town has different creatures, art, and strengths/weaknesses. You will also have a town (again, generally you start with just one, but sometimes more) which allows you to recruit creatures for your army and improve your economy. As your hero gain experience, they level up and get better skills and stats, which in turn make your armies stronger.

In this game, heroes themselves do not literally fight, but you hero serves as the general of your army and can support them by casting spells or having special skills. (On some maps you might start with more than one). The very basic concept is that you will always start with (usually) one Hero, who is your main character, although you can recruit others. Of course, the graphics are 2D, but even for an older game I still think the artwork looks amazing. Heroes 3 is a fantastic game, probably the game I have played more than any other in my life.
